Our race formats
The ÖTILLÖ race organisation offers four different race formats. Each one to reflect your own swimrun ambition and experience. The ÖTILLÖ weekends will have a World Series race on Sundays and Sprint and Experience races on Saturdays. The World Championship weekend will only have the ÖTILLÖ Final15K Sprint on the Saturday.
Visit each race page to see the different races. Read more about the race formats below.
World championship
The mother of all swimrun races – where the sport originates from. You can only get in to the World Championship via qualification, via ranking points, via selection, via the 7/24 concept or with a little bit of luck. Prepare for the toughest of days with a massive 75km course with 26 islands to cross in difficult terrain.
World Series
These races serve as qualifiers to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP and also as the ultimate regional swimrun challenge. The races are long and hard where you can expect to be out anywhere from 5-9 hours. You need to be prepared for open-water swimming in nature and for trail-running in nature. These races have several cut-offs.
Sprint races
The word Sprint eludes to the distance compared to a WORLD SERIES race, not necessarily to the speed. These races are between 15-17 km long. Fun and challenging. This is where beginners and top racers meet. There is one cut-off early on in the race.
Experience races
The Experience races are short, fun, entry-level swimrun experiences for those completely new to the sport.
They are between 5-7 km long with easy swims and easy runs.
Solo start
When going to our own practice we realize that we sometimes do somethings on our own. We also sometimes do not have someone to do things with. Thus we have decided to introduce a new concept for us – Solo start ÖTILLÖ-style. This means that you can enter into a Solo class where every person will be given a safety-buoy (your inflatable partner) that you must bring with you along the whole course and also use on all swims. Solo start is ONLY available on EXPERIENCE and SPRINT distances.
Merit races
With a growing number of races around the world we would like to promote the races we think represent the Spirit of Swimrun and which stand out as directional lighthouses in their areas. Read more about the ÖTILLÖ Merit Races
Swimrun ranking
In the process to get more transparent in our selection process for ÖTILLÖ The Swimrun World Championship we have created a Ranking system. See current standings and read more about the ranking system
