Great ÖTILLÖ Season Finale in Cannes!

GREAT ÖTILLÖ SEASON FINALE IN CANNES
ÖTILLÖ WORLD SERIES CANNES – OCTOBER 12TH ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Cannes made for a beautiful season-ending event for the European ÖTILLÖ season. Around 750 participants from 32 nations participated in the three race distances World Series, Sprint and Experience. The field in the long-course World Series distance was very strong: reigning Swimrun World Champion Matthieu Poullain started with multiple World and European Champion Triathlete Arthur Serrières. Reigning mixed World Champions Fredrik and Lorraine Axegård were on the start line as well as former World Champions Kristin Larsson and Helena Sivertsson. The weather conditions were excellent for the racers: calm and dry with air and water temperatures of around 20 degrees. The racecourse in Cannes is beautiful yet challenging: the athletes had to complete a total race distance of 42 km with 34 km of partly very technical trail running and 8 km of swimming. The start field was also the biggest in a World Series Event in 2024: 88 teams and 80 solo racers completed 11 running sections and 11 swim sections in the World Series distance. In the mens’ category, the French team of Arnaud de Lustrac and Jérome Gueguen, who had already won ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Engadin earlier this year, set off at a furious pace on the islands of Sainte Marguerite and Saint Honorat, achieving a lead of several minutes over the following teams of Matthieu Poullain (FRA) and Arthur Serrières (FRA) and the French /Swedish team of David Pesquet & Lars Ekman, by the time they reached Cap de la Croisette after the long swim back to the mainland. They maintained that lead all the way to the finish line and won in an overall time of 4:14:42. Watch the full interview with Arnaud de Lustrac and Jérome Gueguen on ÖTILLÖ’s Facebook channel. In the mixed category, the French duo of Thomas Deffains and Johanne Laizeau started very fast and had a two-minute lead over the reigning World Champions Fredrik (SWE) and Lorraine Axegård (SWE) after the first swim along the island of Sainte Marguerite. The lead increased steadily over the following mixed teams and in the end Thomas Deffains and Johanne Laizeau won in 4:37:42, eleven minutes ahead of the also very strong teams of Florian Schäfer (FRA) & Lydie Waucquier (FRA) in second place and Pierre de Lustrac (FRA) and Mélisande Muller (FRA) in third place, completing an all-French podium in the mixed category. In the women’s category, Kristin Larsson (SWE) and Helena Sivertsson (SWE) lead the field ahead of Ulrika Eriksson (SWE) and Hanna Skårbratt (SWE), who were fighting hard throughout the second half of the race to close the gap. In the end, Kristin Larsson and Helena Sivertsson prevailed and won with a lead of 7 minutes over Ulrika Eriksson & Hanna Skårbratt and the French duo of Valerie Bourgis & Marion Puech.
