Why CAsco Bay?
The Casco Bay Islands are located off the coast of Portland, Maine, and are made up of hundreds of islands. Some are small and uninhabited, while others are larger and home to vibrant communities, each with its own unique charm and character. Notable islands include Bailey, Chebeague, Cliff, Great Diamond, Little Diamond, Long, and Peaks. These islands feature quaint towns and villages with rich histories, offering a serene escape from the fast pace of urban New England. Whether you enjoy leisurely walks, bike rides, or relaxed meals, the islands provide a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the hustle and bustle of the mainland.
Getting to Casco Bay
The nearest airport to Casco Bay is Portland International Jetport (PWM), located in Portland, Maine – the closest coastal city to the islands. Once in Portland, you can easily reach many of the islands via Casco Bay Lines Ferries or local private water taxis. On race day, all athletes and volunteers will be transported to their designated start lines by Casco Bay Lines Ferries, with tickets provided for both groups. Spectators, however, will need to arrange their own transportation as complimentary ferry tickets are not available for them. After the race, the ferry ride back to the mainland is free for everyone and operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
