The origin of Swimrun
ㅤ
Since its founding in 2002 from a simple bet between four friends, the race has grown into one of the most prestigious endurance events in the world. Every first Monday in September, teams of two race across 25 islands in the Stockholm Archipelago – 9 km of open-water swimming and 61 km of trail running, connected by 46 transitions between sea and land. From the mythical start at Sandhamn to the finish at Utö Värdshus, ÖTILLÖ is unlike anything else in endurance sport.

The ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship is by invitation only.
ㅤ
At the end of each season, based on the ÖTILLÖ ranking system, athletes who have collected ranking points during the season are invited to form a team and apply for qualification for the following year’s World Championship. The combined ranking points of both athletes determine their place on the qualification list and, ultimately, their invitation to the start line.
ㅤ
Each year, we also receive requests from experienced athletes and teams who have not been able to collect ranking points – but who we believe deserve a spot at the World Championship.
ㅤ
The ÖTILLÖ Wildcard is our way of opening the door to these athletes. If you believe you have what it takes, tell us your story.
