Garmin has always developed products for new areas, and swimrun is no exception. The fēnix 5 is the only sports watch on the market which features a swimrun app that allows you to switch between swimming and running as many times as you wish, making it a firm favourite amongst passionate swimrunners.

The swimrun app puts you in control of pace, time, pulse, distance and altitude during the entire race and especially for the running sections. Distances are crucial when preparing for each swim section, making transitions swift. In swimming mode, the watch measures distance, the number of strokes, swimming efficiency (swolf), strokes/minute, and water temperature.

Both Garmin teams, who have been competing successfully throughout the entire ÖTILLÖ series in the past few years, use their fēnix 5 or fēnix 5S for training and competition. Pontus Lindberg and George Bjälkemo in Team Garmin, won the first race of the season in Hvar.

“Our fēnix 5 allows us to measure our efforts and plan our preparations in order to perform at the absolute top of our capabilities during competitions,” explains George Bjälkemo, one half of the men’s Team Garmin, who won the first race of the season in Hvar. “The short season is packed with many competitions, so it’s vital to monitor one’s training quantity and intensity. Not to mention recovery.”

Since the inception of ÖTILLÖ in 2006, Garmin has been a partner and seen the amazing development of the sport, going from strength to strength and building a whole community across Europe of passionate athletes who love everything ÖTILLÖ stands for.

Birgit Baecker, Garmin EMEA Outdoor Marketing Manager, says, “For Garmin, it’s really important to get to know the people who are use our products. We want to know how they use them and hear their ideas for improvements and new features, which is why we love to be at the ÖTILLÖ races and meet the participants. It’s always such a pleasure to hear stories and ideas from people who are as passionate about this sport as we are.”

Now you can win your own fēnix 5

Leading up to every ÖTILLÖ competition, throughout the entire series, two new Garmin fēnix 5 will be up for grabs. Follow ÖTILLÖ’s Facebook page to find out how to enter the next competition, and you’ll have the opportunity to win your own fēnix 5. Good luck!

Confessions of a swimrunrunner: first time at ÖTILLÖ

To non-Swedes, the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship seems like a way the natives spend a day outdoors frolicking with friends before the long dark winter sets in. But for those of us not born in the country that bares a yellow Nordic cross on a field of blue, ÖTILLÖ – 75 km that cross 26 islands, known as one of the toughest endurance races in the world – is daunting. Here’s what teams racing the WC for the first time have to say.

No training? No problem, ÖTILLÖ still needs you!

Volunteerism may be the fastest growing trend in global tourism, but you don’t have to travel half way across the world to give back: you can make an impact at a local level and swimrun is a cool place to start.
