SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2019 PRE RACE PRESS RELEASE THE SEASON CONTINUES AT ÖTILLÖ 1000 LAKESTHE RACE WEEKENDJust three weeks after ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship 2019 the season continues. ÖTILLÖ 1000 Lakes just 70 km North East of Berlin will set the stage for the fifth ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series weekend of the year. For some it is for the adventure, for some it is for the experience, for some it is to race hard and for some it is to qualify to ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship 2020. The Mecklenburger Seenplatte is an astonishing place which few outside of Germany know about. The area has more than 3 000 fresh-water lakes with very clean water. This lakes are in a landscape of beautiful beech tree forests that start changing colors in the end of September. This area will host its fourth ÖTILLÖ Swimrun weekend. More than 400 persons from close to 20 nations will start in the races and experience the magic of the race courses. All under the best organisation in the business. The EXPERIENCE distance is 8,3 km with 4 swim sections totalling 1560 metres. This race distance you can either do in teams of two or solo. The SPRINT eludes to the distance and not to the speed. It is a total of 16,9km with 6 swim sections totalling 2810 metres. This race distance you can either do in teams of two or solo. We have close to 210 persons signed up for these beautiful tastes of ÖTILLÖ Swimrun. On Sunday, September 22nd we have the WORLD SERIES event which acts as a Qualifier to the World Championship and where teams can collect ranking points. The World Series is a total of 42, 2 km with 10 swim sections totalling 7 560 metres. This race you can only do in a team of two and it is the most prestigeous event in Germany. We have close to 240 persons signed up for the World Series. SUNDAYS WORLD SERIES RACEThe nearly 120 teams of two start their Sunday morning with a brutally fast run to the first lake where they will face a 1 000 metre swim at full speed before continuing South. In total, they will cover almost 34 km on foot and 8 km swimming making a course distance just above 42 km. This years race will have the warmest water temperatures to date – around 16 degrees C in the bigger lakes. The fastest teams are expected to complete the course in around around 4, 5 hours. Will the 2018 winners and former World Champions Fredrik Axegård & Alex Flores, Team ARK Swimrun (SWE) be able to come back after their dissapointment of coming second at the World Championship three weeks ago? Or will we see some new faces appear? As seen in previous races this year the top 5 teams are battling until the very last kilometres. In the mixed category former World Champion Martin Flinta with new partner Johanna Edman (Team Thule Crew/ HEAD SR team) SWE will be difficult to beat. In the womens category we are honored to welcome the NEW WOMENS WORLD CHAMPIONS Fanny Kuhn & Desirée Andersson of Team Envol (SWE). Some of swimrun’s top teams will be chasing each other from the Burg in Wesenberg to the castle in Rheinsberg. It will be great to see athletes from all over the world on the start line, some are veterans of swimrun and some are totally new to the sport, but eager to find out why so many people are so hooked to the unique experience of racing in swimrun. As in all races, it is only when the dust has settled that we know the outcome of the race.
