Race report – ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Utö 2014
Dear racers, friends and family!
Wow, what a start to the 2014 season. Two fighter jets doing a flyby minutes before start was quite symbolic!
150 teams entered the race, 124 started (26 no shows) and 121 finished! In total participants from 16 nations. On the start line we had veterans of swimrun, beginners, previous Winners and current champions. Swedish rap star Petter was making his debut. It was an Awesome line up.
The weather the days before the race was tough. Lots of wind and some rain. However, on race day it was quite calm with cloudy skies and very little wind. All in all, quite good for running around in your wetsuit!
The race started of with the traditional master start which then released the frenetic mob after about 500 metres. Full speed ahead was the motto from then on.
Team Head Swimming with current ÖTILLÖ World Champion Björn Englund racing with Marcus Hultgren showed right away why they were carrying the yellow Jersey! Just behind we had a very interesting development, a new mixed team from Holland/Finland was pushing very hard and were in third/fourth place overall throughout the course! They finished fourth overall in the end and are very strong contenders to the ÖTILLÖ World Championship mixed title!
All in all it was a great day. The teams performed very well, Huge enthusiasm and very good media coverage. Utö Värdshus delivered a great feeling and a great post-race banquett. Quite a few ÖTILLÖ beers were enjoyed and we all made new friends!
Next race: Engadin Swimrun on July 12th. See you there or follow us LIVE on the internet!
Thank you to all racers, all staff, all sponsors and all media for making Utö Swimrun a huge success!
See you soon again,
Michael & Mats
