Malta is its own island country in the Southern Mediterranean with beautiful water around its rugged coastline. It is the southernmost country in Europe. Malta has been a central part of Mediterranean history throughout the ages with fantastic cultural and historical remains.
Malta has been inhabited since approximately 5900 BC. Its location in the centre of the Mediterranean has historically given it great strategic importance as a naval base. Where the Phoenicians and Carthaginians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Normans, Aragonese, Knights of St. John, French, and British have influenced the country’s ancient culture. The capital, Valletta is beautiful with its ramparts and antique buildings.
It will also be the backdrop for the start of the Sunday World Series race. Golden Sands in Mellieha will be the arena for the Saturday Sprint and Experience races together with the finish line for the Sunday World Series.
This is a perfect Swimrun location with trails, bays and some small hills. The water is exceptionally clear. The Radisson Blu hotel in Golden Sands will host the race HQ and all official functions.
Malta is easy to get to with direct flights from all major European hubs. On Malta everything is within one hours drive. Read more about Malta here: www.visitmalta.com

We can all do something!
ÖTILLÖ AND SWIMRUN
ÖTILLÖ is the origin and the founding race of the sport that later has become known as swimrun. The first race was held in 2006 in Sweden. Today, swimrun is one of the fastest growing endurance sports in the world where you in teams of two alternate trail running and open water swimming along a marked course. There is no time to lose – you run in your wetsuit and swim in your shoes!
It is a unique sport and experience.
ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship (ÖTILLÖ meaning island to island in Swedish) is the original swimrun race, renowned as one of the toughest one-day races in the world (CNN 2012).
