GOTHENBURG BECOMES A NEW DESTINATION FOR ÖTILLÖ SWIMRUN WORLD SERIES

On Saturday August 7th, 2021 the City of Gothenburg will provide the scene for ÖTILLÖ, the origin of the sport of Swimrun.

The Southern Archipelago of Styrsö, Vrångö, Donsö, Brännö and Köpstadsö is a mere 15 minutes from the mainland and part of the City of Gothenburg. It has a history since the stone age and a geography that is spectacular. Beautiful granite islands, small, year-round hamlets and a vibrant summer community.

ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Gothenburg on Saturday, August 7th will be a big day with three race distances catering for the whole spectra of swimrunners; from beginners to the absolute best in the world. The Experience is 7,5 km, the Sprint is 19 km and the World Series is 35 km. In the World Series the top two teams in each category (men, women & mixed) that do not already have a spot qualify to the 15th ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship in the Stockholm Archipelago on September 6th. This race day will be a yearly event.

ÖTILLÖ Swimrun has taken over a race that was very popular during 2012 – 2019 called Öloppet and will work with some of the former race directors to continue their tradition and to work on bringing it to the next level.

ÖTILLÖ started in 2006, it is the origin to the sport of Swimrun which is growing all over the world. ÖTILLÖ is the most well-known brand in the world of Swimrun and hosts both the World Championship as well as eight (8) yearly World Series weekends around the world. In 2012 CNN ranked ÖTILLÖ, the Swimrun World Championship as one of the toughest one-day challenges in the world.

Swimrun is the sport where primarily teams of two race together over land and through water without stopping. You run in your wetsuit and you swim in your shoes.
