APRIL 2ND, 2019
The beautiful island of Hvar in Croatia hosts the first race of the 2019 ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series with close to 140 teams from 20 nations on the start line. Sunday, April 7th is race day.
Some of the best teams in the world are on the start line to either qualify to the 2019 World Championship or chase the coveted GOLDEN BIB and take on the challenge of winning six ÖTILLÖ races in a row and the prize purse of 33 000€ per category.
These teams together with an additional hundred and some teams will be challenged by this stunning course where the pairs will run along beautiful trails and do epic ocean swims.
The island of Hvar, accessible off the Croatian coast from Split, is an incredible swimrun location and the perfect opening race for the swimrun season.
The sea is crystal clear, the water temperature on race day will be around 15°C and, on a sunny day, air temperatures can climb to 20°C.
The 40,4 km race course is challenging, with almost 31,6 km of trail running, including some good vertical climbs and descents, as well as magical run along the central ridge of the island. Racers need to be good swimmers to handle the 9 different swim sections totalling 8 800 metres, where the longest swim is a brutal 2 950 metres!
Add on some Roman ruins, beautiful architecture, blooming wild flowers, the smell of rosemary, and wonderful people, and this course makes for a great setting.
Mats Skott, Race Director of the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series and one of the Founders of the sport says: After a long winter in Sweden it is so nice to start the season in a warm, friendly place like Hvar where you realize why this sport is such a great thing. The camraderie, the sense of discovering new places and the challenge of Hvar makes this the perfect location.
Some of swimrun’s top teams will be taking on the challenge in Hvar. Swimrun World Champions and winners of ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series will be on the start line, as well as athletes from all over the world, some are veterans of swimrun and some are totally new to the sport, but eager to find out why so many people are so hooked on the unique experience of racing in swimrun.

About Swimrun and ÖTILLÖ
Swimrun was founded in 2006. The original ÖTILLÖ race is the mother of all swimruns.
Today it is one of the fastest growing endurance sports in the world where you alternate trail running and open water swimming on a marked course. There is no time to lose – you run in your wetsuit and swim in your shoes!
It is a unique sport and experience as you race with a partner and the race courses are out in wild nature.
The ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship (ÖTILLÖ meaning island to island in Swedish) is the original swimrun race, renowned as one of the toughest one-day races in the world (CNN 2012).
