ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Fun

Welcome to the fantastic island of Hvar for a week of swimrun fun from May 13th-20th, 2017. The wonderfully charming Hvar, with its beautiful old town and carefully-restored buildings, is called the St Tropez of the Adriatic, a gem during low season but quite a different vibe during high season.

The island of Hvar is a swimrun – and training – paradise. Crystal-clear water, undulating trails, tiny villages, isolated salt-water bays and wonderful smells of spring flowers and rosemary. This perfect swimrun destination provides us with both long and inspiring training days – warm water (20°C), sun and varied sessions for both beginner and experienced swimrunners – while we collectively experience the peaceful, traditional life on the island, surrounded by wonderful people.

Together with our experienced instructors, this is the perfect end of the training season as the new race calendar begins. The goal of this week is to let you work on your own objectives in a spectacular environment. For those who want to sharpen your racing skills, sessions will be a variation of technique and speed, with a focus on transitions along with some long, easy pace sessions. If anyone is interested, we can test race part of the ÖTILLÖ Hvar course.

For those of you new to swimrun, this is the perfect introductory week to the sport and its family atmosphere while enjoying a unique environment. For starters, you’ll be open water swimming in warm, clear salt-water, which is a huge bonus, plus we’ll focus on swimming techniques, the art of trail running and how to achieve smooth transitions between land and water.

Throw in some good food, a leisurely espresso in the sun in the town square and exploring a beautiful archipelago, and what could be better?

ÖTILLÖ instructor

Mats Andersson: One of the Original Four who made the initial bet of running and swimming across the Stockholm Archipelago, a wager which inspired ÖTILLÖ, the origin of the sport. Mats, who’s participated in the most number of ÖTILLÖ-produced races, epitomises the culture of the sport, and is a wonderful happy person with extremely good transition and trail-running techniques.

Mikael Rosén: The Rain Man of swimming – there is nothing that Mikael Rosén does not know about swimming and swim coaching. His instagram account @human_ambition is an encyclopedia of swim trivia and he and Mats make the perfect match.

Swimrun Life #5 2017 – A word from the editor

I find myself waking up extra early on Sunday mornings with the anticipation of a blissfully long swimrun training day ahead of me. Instead, I put on an ÖTILLÖ cap and stare fondly at my paddles with this year’s race distances scribbled across them. Race days are not all I’m yearning for. It’s the people, the ÖTILLÖ community that I miss.

Race Directors’ Moment: The year is coming to a close

The selection process for the 2018 ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship has started and the registration for Director’s Choice and the Ranking application is now open. There are four more ÖTILLÖ qualification races, plus the 7/24 concept.

2017 Ranking Leaders: Consistency puts you on top!

In 2016, we started a Ranking System that we could be as fair as possible when awarding spots to the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship. Before this method, we had to try to sift through hundreds of applications and go with our gut feeling. Now we can finally see its full effect.
